60,000 Saplings to be Planted Across Jammu City under ‘Clean Jammu, Green Jammu’ Campaign

Jammu, August 8: In a major step towards enhancing the green cover and combating climate change, the Clean Jammu, Green Jammu campaign, jointly organized by the Jammu Municipal Corporation and Urban Forestry Division Jammu, has resolved to plant 60,000 saplings across the city before August 15. The campaign is being run in mission mode to transform Jammu into a greener, healthier, and more sustainable urban space.

Continuing this drive, 5,000 saplings were planted today as a miyawaki plantation in the premises of office of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and HoFF J&K, Qasim Nagar, Narwal. The plantation programme was inaugurated by Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir, Sh. Atal Dulloo, who formally launched the event by planting a sacred Rudraksh sapling.

The event witnessed the presence of Commissioner Secretary, Forest Department Mrs. Sheetal Nanda, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force Sh. Suresh Kumar Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Dr. Rakesh Minhas, Jammu, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav, Senior officers from the Jammu Municipal Corporation, and all Head of departments of the Forestry Department Jammu.

Adding to the campaign’s participatory spirit, a large number of students from schools, colleges, and universities across Jammu actively joined the plantation drive. Each sapling was planted under the emotional and inspiring slogan “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in the Name of Mother), symbolizing love, respect, and responsibility towards Mother Earth and one’s own mother.

To ensure transparency and long-term care, each sapling was tagged with a unique QR code. This innovative system records the name of the person or group adopting the sapling and provides complete details of the tree species. It will also help in monitoring the growth and survival of the saplings in the coming years.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary took an oath with the participants to protect and nurture the environment, urging citizens to make tree plantation a personal mission. He underlined the importance of active youth participation, stating, “The younger generation must take the lead in saving our environment. In today’s time, it is everyone’s duty to plant and protect trees. This campaign, inspired by the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, calls upon every citizen to plant a tree in the name of their mother.”

The plantation drive also highlighted the collaborative efforts of government departments, educational institutions, and local communities, aiming not only to plant trees but also to create a sense of ownership among citizens for environmental conservation.
