DC Ramban calls for intensive anti-drug enforcement measures
RAMBAN, MARCH 30: District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting was held today at Ramban under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan to review ongoing anti-narcotic measures and discuss Action Plan to strengthen on ground efforts to eliminate drug menace in the district.
Inquiring about the enforcement measures, the Deputy Commissioner asked police and other stakeholders to launch a sustained hunt to track down the perpetrators. “The Drug Control Organisation should take effective action in close coordination with the Police Department to keep check on misuse of prescription Drugs” he directed. SDMs and Tehsildars were asked to submit details of Drug-Free Panchayats for cross-verification and ensure proper surveillance in such areas. He further called for innovative interventions and focused analysis to understand the root causes pushing youth towards substance abuse.
The Chief Education Officer was directed to activate school-level monitoring committees to keep check on suspicious activities within and around school premises. The District Social Welfare Officer was asked to intensify awareness under the ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ covering government and private schools, colleges, ITIs, Polytechnic institutes and libraries.
Reviewing the functioning of the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at the District Hospital, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure proper medical care, counselling and follow-up support for rehabilitation and prevention of relapse.
Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta emphasized the need for joint efforts by all departments.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak; Chief Medical Officer Dr Kamal Zadu; Tehsildar Deep Kumar; Tehsildar Headquarters Reejuta Mahajan; District Social Welfare Officer Sahil Bhagotra; BDO Headquarters Shalini Chandel; Drug Control Officer and officers from other enforcement and line departments. Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars and other concerned officers participated through virtual mode.
