Srinagar, Sept 13: In one of the biggest narcotics hauls of the year, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Srinagar Zone busted a major smuggling network in south Kashmir, seizing 10.735 kg of charas and arresting three accused.
Officials said a targeted operation was carried out on August 19 in Bijbehara, Anantnag, based on specific intelligence inputs. The arrested accused were identified as Firdous of Bijbehara (Anantnag), Jan Mohammad Baba of Lal Bazar (Srinagar), and Mohammad Lateef of Srigufwara (Anantnag).
According to the NCB statement, Firdous had earlier been booked in multiple NDPS cases at Police Station Bijbehara and NCB Jammu, while Jan Mohammad Baba was also facing an NDPS case from NCB Jammu. Investigations revealed that the contraband was procured from Lateef, who also played a key role in its inter-state transportation through illegal channels.
Officials highlighted that the seizure reflects the growing role of the NCB’s Srinagar office, set up under the Centre’s strategy to intensify the anti-narcotics drive in J&K.
“NCB remains committed to disrupting the drug trade, safeguarding the youth from its harmful impact, and ensuring stronger inter-agency coordination across the Union Territory,” the statement said.
