The Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, has congratulated master artisan Rafiq Ahmed Sofi of Eidgah, Srinagar, on receiving the National Award 2025 in the Hand-Knotted Carpet category from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
Sofi is the sole awardee from Jammu and Kashmir in this category. His award-winning carpet showcases intricate floral motifs, traditional architectural patterns and calligraphic elements.
The honour recognises his exceptional craftsmanship and contribution to Kashmir’s traditional carpet weaving, bringing pride to the region’s handicrafts sector and giving fresh impetus to the carpet industry.
