Jammu, Oct 8: A man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly desecrating the Guru Granth Sahib in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, officials said.
The accused, identified as Manjit Singh alias Billa, a resident of Koulpur village in Ramgarh, reportedly poured inflammable oil on the holy scripture and set it ablaze late Tuesday night, triggering widespread protests from the Sikh community, a police officer said.
“Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of law and arrested the accused. Further investigation is underway,” the officer added.
