Srinagar, November 10: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) on Monday announced that it has secured the conviction of former Sub-Inspector Jagdesh Singh, son of Kartar Singh and a resident of Atina, Budgam, in connection with FIR No. 32/2013 registered under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
According to the CBK, the case originated from a report by the Police Headquarters (PHQ) J&K, revealing that Singh had tampered with his date of birth in official documents — changing it from 1957 to 1959 — to unlawfully extend his service by two years. Investigations confirmed that Singh had altered his date of birth to November 10, 1959, in his service records and academic certificates to gain undue benefits.
During the trial, the Economic Offences Wing presented strong documentary and witness evidence establishing Singh’s guilt. After reviewing the case, the Hon’ble Court of City Judge, Srinagar, convicted him under Sections 420, 511, and 468 RPC.
The court sentenced Singh to three years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 under Section 420 read with 511 RPC, and another three years’ imprisonment with a ₹5,000 fine under Section 468 RPC. In case of non-payment, he will face an additional six months of simple imprisonment. Both sentences will run concurrently.
The CBK reiterated its resolve to take strict action against all forms of fraud, forgery, and corruption, emphasizing that no individual, regardless of position, is above the law.
