Ten Killed, Several Injured in Powerful Blast Near Red Fort

New Delhi, Nov 10: A massive explosion occurred near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, killing at least ten people and injuring over two dozen others, officials said. Several vehicles were gutted in the blast, which sent shockwaves across the busy area.

The explosion took place when the area was crowded with evening visitors. Twenty-four injured people were rushed to LNJP Hospital. Videos from the scene showed cars engulfed in flames and bodies lying on the road, while eyewitnesses described seeing body parts scattered near the blast site.

Authorities have sounded a high alert across Delhi. Ten fire tenders were deployed, and the blaze was brought under control by 7:29 pm, officials said. Six cars, two e-rickshaws, and one autorickshaw were completely destroyed in the fire.

A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) reached the site soon after the incident. The blast’s intensity shattered windows of nearby vehicles, and the sound was heard several kilometres away, including at ITO.

An eyewitness said the explosion appeared to come from a car, possibly a Swift, parked near the metro station. “There was something inside the car that suddenly exploded,” he said.

The incident caused panic in the area as people fled the scene. Sanjay Bhargava, president of the Chandni Chowk Traders Association, said the blast shook nearby buildings and caused chaos in the market.

The explosion came hours after police recovered 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate and a cache of arms and explosives from a Kashmiri doctor’s rented house in Faridabad.

The discovery was part of an ongoing probe that led to the arrest of eight people, including three doctors, linked to a “white collar” terror module associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH). The network reportedly operated across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Officials said one of the arrested doctors, Dr. Shaheen from Lucknow, was flown to Srinagar for questioning, and an AK-47 rifle was recovered from her car.
