Delhi blast: Police register case under UAPA, Explosives Act

New Delhi, November 11: Delhi Police have filed a case in connection with the blast near the Red Fort under multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to police, the case has been registered under Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA, along with relevant provisions of the Explosives Act and the BNS at Kotwali Police Station.

At least eight people were killed and several others injured after a blast ripped through a Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the explosion occurred around 7 pm at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort. The blast damaged nearby vehicles and injured several pedestrians.

“Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives. Within 10 minutes of receiving the information, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch reached the spot,” Shah said. He added that all possible angles are being investigated and the findings will be shared with the public soon.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said that a slow-moving car stopped at a red light near the Red Fort Metro Station when the explosion took place, damaging nearby vehicles. “All agencies, including FSL and NIA, are at the spot. Some people have died, and some have been injured. The situation is being closely monitored,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken stock of the situation and spoken to Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the incident, government sources said.

According to the Medical Superintendent of LNJP Hospital, fifteen people were brought in for treatment. “Eight were declared dead on arrival, three are critically injured, and one is in stable condition,” the official said.
