Srinagar, Nov 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained a preacher from Mewat, Haryana, in connection with the ‘white collar’ terror module allegedly operating from a university in Faridabad, officials said on Wednesday.
The preacher, identified as Maulvi Ishtiyaq, was living in a rented accommodation inside the Al-Falah University complex in Faridabad. Police had earlier recovered over 2,500 kg of ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and sulphur from his residence, officials added.
Ishtiyaq has been brought to Srinagar and is likely to be formally arrested soon. He is the ninth person detained so far in the ongoing investigation into the module.
The arrests followed a series of interstate raids conducted on November 10 by Jammu and Kashmir Police along with their counterparts in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The operation aimed to dismantle a ‘white-collar’ terror network linked to banned outfits Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
According to officials, the explosive materials had been stored at Ishtiyaq’s rented residence by Dr Muzammil Ganaie, also known as Musaib, and Dr Umar Nabi — the man who was reportedly driving the explosives-laden car that exploded near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening, killing 12 people.
