Terror module crackdown: Dry fruit seller picked up for questioning succumbs to burn injuries

Srinagar, Nov 17: A dry fruit seller who had set himself on fire after being picked up by police for questioning in connection with a terror module case has died at a hospital here, officials said on Monday.

Bilal Ahmad Wani set himself ablaze on Sunday in Qazigund. He was first taken to a hospital in Anantnag but was later shifted to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar after his condition deteriorated, officials said.

They added that Wani succumbed to his burn injuries shortly after midnight.

According to officials, Wani and his son, Jasir Bilal, were detained for questioning regarding the ongoing terror module investigation. While Wani was later released, his son continues to remain in custody for further questioning.

Wani was a neighbour of Dr Muzaffar Rather, who has emerged as a key accused in the “white collar terror module” case.

Muzaffar is currently believed to be in Afghanistan, while his younger brother, Dr Adeel Rather, was arrested from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on November 6.
