Srinagar, Jan 17: The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has issued a fresh weather advisory, forecasting a new spell of rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days.
Director Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said that January 17 and 18 are likely to witness partly to generally cloudy skies, with light snowfall possible over isolated higher-altitude areas.
He said weather conditions are expected to deteriorate between January 19 and 20, with generally cloudy skies and light to moderate rain and snowfall occurring at scattered to fairly widespread locations across the Union Territory.
According to the forecast, January 21 will remain partly to generally cloudy, with chances of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches.
A more intense weather system is expected to affect the region from the evening of January 22. Between January 23 and 24, light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely at most places, with the possibility of heavy precipitation in parts of the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal range and south Kashmir.
Dr. Ahmad further stated that light rain or snowfall may continue at scattered places on January 26.
The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of heavy rain and snowfall in some areas, particularly across the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal range and south Kashmir. Gusty winds are also likely at a few locations, along with an increased risk of landslides in vulnerable areas.
Travellers have been advised to plan their movement cautiously, especially during January 23 and 24, and strictly adhere to traffic and administrative advisories.
Farmers have also been advised to suspend agricultural activities during the anticipated wet spell to avoid losses.
