Al-Falah University under scanner after unearthing of terror module, Red Fort blast

Faridabad, Nov 12: Al-Falah University in Haryana’s Faridabad district has come under the radar of investigating agencies after the arrest of three doctors linked to a “white-collar terror module” and the recent high-intensity blast near Delhi’s Red Fort.

Located on a 76-acre campus in the Muslim-dominated Dhauj village, the university is now being scrutinized for allegedly providing shelter to individuals acting under the influence of Pakistan-backed handlers, officials said.

As per its website, Al-Falah University was established under the Haryana Private Universities Act by the Haryana Legislative Assembly. It began as an engineering college in 1997 and later received ‘A’ category accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2013. The following year, it was granted university status by the Haryana government. The Al-Falah Medical College operates under its affiliation.

Experts note that in its early years, the university served as a preferred alternative for minority students seeking higher education, similar to institutions like Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia. Managed by the Al-Falah Charitable Trust, founded in 1995, the university is chaired by Jawad Ahmad Siddiqui, with Mufti Abdullah Qasimi as vice-chairman and Mohammad Wajid as secretary. Prof (Dr) Mohammad Parvez currently serves as registrar, and Dr Bhupinder Kaur Anand is the vice-chancellor.

The university houses three main colleges — the Al-Falah School of Engineering and Technology, Brown Hill College of Engineering and Technology, and Al-Falah School of Education and Training. It also operates a 650-bed hospital providing free medical services.

Police officials said extensive searches were carried out at the university on Tuesday, and several staff members were questioned.

The scrutiny follows Monday evening’s explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station, which killed 12 people and injured several others. The car involved was allegedly driven by Dr Mohammad Umar Nabi from Pulwama, who was serving as an assistant professor at Al-Falah University.

The blast came just hours after the arrest of eight people — including three doctors affiliated with the university — and the seizure of around 2,900 kilograms of explosives. The investigation revealed a “white-collar” terror network linked to banned groups Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, operating across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Among those arrested was Dr Muzammil Ganaie, a faculty member at Al-Falah University, officials said.
