Arms Consignment Dropped by Drone Seized Near IB in J&K’s Samba

Jammu, Jan 10: Security forces recovered an arms consignment, suspected to have been dropped by a drone from Pakistan, from a forward area near the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.

The seized consignment included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition and a grenade. The recovery was made amid heightened security measures aimed at preventing any attempts by terrorists to disrupt the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.

Officials said a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation in Paloora village of Ghagwal late on Friday night after receiving information about suspected drone movement from across the border.

During the search, the teams found a packet wrapped in yellow tape near the banks of a stream. The packet was opened with the help of a bomb disposal squad, leading to the recovery of the arms and ammunition.

The operation was continuing at the time of the last reports, officials added.
