Chairman DLSA Jammu inspects civic amenities for inmates at Central Jail
JAMMU, MARCH 28: Chairman District Legal Services Authority Jammu (Principal District and Sessions Judge) R. N. Watal and Secretary DLSA Maleeka Sharma along with Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Anil Sharma today conducted an inspection of Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu. During the inspection, the DLSA team, led by the Chairman, got first-hand knowledge of the living conditions of under-trial prisoners, detenues and other inmates, as well as the overall functioning of the jail including the Prison Legal Aid Clinic.
The Chairman and the Secretary interacted with the inmates, inquiring about the facilities available in the jail.
The primary aim of the jail visit was to identify the problems being faced by the Jail Inmates. The inspection also covered a wide range of areas, including the Jail Legal Aid Clinic, Virtual VC rooms, interview area, prisoner calling system, Jail Hospital, Kitchen Area, etc.
The Chairman, DLSA and Secretary noted that some areas of the jail premises require renovation and issued on the spot directions to the Jail Superintendent to identify the issues and coordinate with the concerned authorities as per the applicable rules. The Chairman R.N. Watal reiterated that the right to have legal aid shall be the priority of District Legal Services Authority Jammu so that every inmate is represented effectively before the Ld. Courts.
