Court Reserves Order on MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh’s Plea for Custody Parole

New Delhi, Nov 26: The Patiala House Court on Wednesday reserved its order on a plea filed by Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh, who is seeking custody parole to attend the upcoming Parliament session in December. He is currently in jail in a terror-related case being investigated by the NIA.

Special NIA Judge Prashant Sharma reserved the order after hearing arguments from both sides. The NIA told the court that it has no objection to the MP attending the session while in custody.

Advocates Vikhyat Oberoi and Nishita Gupta, representing Sheikh, said they also had no objection to custody parole, but noted that the issue of cost for such custody arrangements is still pending before the Delhi High Court.

The court will announce its decision on November 27.

Abdul Rashid Sheikh has requested interim bail or custody parole without cost to attend the session starting December 1. He has previously been allowed custody parole to attend Parliament, take his oath as an MP, and vote in the Vice-Presidential election.

His application regarding modification of the security cost for custody parole is currently being considered by a single-judge bench of the Delhi High Court after a division bench gave a split verdict earlier this month.
