DC Reasi reviews Telecom Infrastructure; directs strengthening of network coverage across district

REASI, JANUARY 23: To address issues related to telecom connectivity and network-coverage challenges across District Reasi, Deputy Commissioner, Nidhi Malik, today chaired a meeting of the District Telecom Committee to review the functioning and progress of telecom service providers in the district.
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on key issues, including augmentation of mobile signals, pending land allocations for telecom towers and grant of tower permissions in various areas. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of seamless telecom connectivity for public convenience, efficient governance and digital inclusion.
The Sub Divisional Engineer, BSNL apprised the chair about land-related issues hampering tower installations at Lamsora and Sarmegha. Taking prompt action, the Deputy Commissioner directed BSNL officials to conduct a joint site visit with the local Tehsildar to identify and finalize suitable land at both locations.
The progress under the Amended BharatNet Programme was also reviewed. Representatives from PIA/BSNL highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance broadband connectivity in Panchayats.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed BSNL to prepare a comprehensive plan for uncovered and poorly connected areas and submit a detailed list to the district administration.
Addressing private telecom service providers, DC Reasi directed Jio and Airtel to expand and improve 5G coverage in the district and share a list of locations where services are yet to start for phased intervention. Concerns regarding poor Jio network connectivity in parts of Mahore Sub-Division, raised by the SDM, were addressed by the Jio representative, who assured prompt improvement.
ADC Rakesh Kumar, Addl. SP Iftekhar Ahmed, XEN PWD and DFO were present in the meeting, while SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh and Sub Divisional Magistrates joined virtually.
