DC Samba reviews progress of Jal Jeevan Mission schemes; Jal Mahotsav activities
SAMBA, MARCH 11: A meeting to review the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission was held today under the chairpersonship of Deputy Commissioner Samba, Ayushi Sudan, who is also the Chairperson of the District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM).
At the outset, the Superintending Engineer, Hydraulic Circle Jammu presented a detailed status report on the ongoing works and achievements under the mission in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for timely completion of all pending schemes and directed the concerned officers to ensure sustainable and safe drinking water supply to every household in accordance with the objectives of the mission.
The meeting also discussed implementation activity plan for ongoing Jal Mahotsav (March 08 to March 22, 2026), aimed at promoting awareness about water conservation, safe drinking water and community participation.
The Superintending Engineer informed the Chair about the activities being conducted, including the celebration of International Women’s Day and Jal Arpan Diwas on March 08. He further informed that the department has started intensive testing of water samples in schools, Anganwadi centres and villages using Field Testing Kits (FTKs) to ensure the quality of drinking water.
“Training programmes are also being organized for women members of Paani Samitis to strengthen community-level monitoring of water quality,” the meeting was told. It was fruther informed that the process of Har Ghar Jal certification of villages covered under the water supply scheme is progressing well. As part of the celebrations, Plumbers Day was observed on March 11, during which certificates of appreciation were awarded to plumbers for their valuable contribution in strengthening rural water supply infrastructure.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the Jal Shakti Department and emphasized the need for greater community participation to achieve the goal of providing safe and adequate drinking water to every household in the district.
Concerned officers from the District Administration and officials of the Jal Shakti Department attended the meeting.
