EOW Registers Case Against Seven for Job Scam, ₹39 Lakh Cheating Unearthed

Srinagar, Jan 18: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has registered a criminal case against seven individuals for allegedly cheating and defrauding unemployed youth by falsely promising government jobs in return for money.

According to an official statement issued to news agency GNS, the case was initiated following a written complaint received by the EOW. The complainant alleged that the accused persons lured job aspirants by assuring them employment in various government departments, including banks, the Agriculture Department and defence services.

Investigations revealed that the accused collected nearly ₹39 lakh from multiple victims under the guise of arranging government appointments. However, instead of securing legitimate jobs, the victims were allegedly handed fake and forged appointment letters.

After receiving the complaint, the Economic Offences Wing carried out a preliminary verification, during which the allegations were found to be prima facie true. The probe further established that the accused used SIM cards registered in the names of other individuals to carry out the fraudulent activities. Verification of the appointment letters provided to the victims confirmed that the documents were forged.

Based on the findings, offences under Sections 420, 468, 472 and 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) were found to be made out. Accordingly, a formal case has been registered at Police Station Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch Kashmir, and further investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Wing has cautioned the general public, particularly unemployed youth, to remain alert against individuals or groups offering government jobs in exchange for money. People have been advised to immediately report any such fraudulent activity to the nearest police station or directly to the Economic Offences Wing to prevent further cheating.
