Fraudster held for impersonating LG’s Duty Officer in ₹50 lakh job, land scam

Srinagar, Sep 15: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has arrested a man accused of impersonating a Duty Officer to the Lieutenant Governor and defrauding people of over ₹50 lakh on the pretext of jobs and land allotments.

Officials said the accused, identified as Abdul Majid Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, resident of Lishtiyal, Kupwara, was arrested in connection with FIR No. 10/2025.

Investigations revealed that Mir had promised government jobs and land allotments at SDA Colony Bemina, Srinagar, while issuing fake appointment letters purportedly from the Airport Authority of India and forged land documents allegedly from the Srinagar Development Authority.

The accused has been booked under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the IPC. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Srinagar, which granted five days of police remand for further investigation.

The EOW urged the public to stay cautious against such fraudulent activities.
