Srinagar: The first major snowfall of the season is likely to blanket most parts of Kashmir, including the plains, beginning from the night of January 22, according to weather indications.
On January 23, moderate to heavy snowfall is expected across north and central Kashmir, while south Kashmir may witness heavy to very heavy snowfall between the night of January 22 and the morning of January 24.
Meteorological assessments suggest that the plains of south Kashmir could receive significant snow accumulation, ranging from around 8 inches to as much as 2 feet during the spell.
Plains of central and north Kashmir are also expected to experience a substantial snowfall, with accumulations likely to range between 6 inches and 1 foot.
The anticipated snowfall may disrupt normal life, especially transportation and essential services, and residents have been advised to remain cautious and follow official advisories during the period.
