Srinagar, Nov 22: The tentative seat matrix for NEET-PG 2025 has triggered widespread concern among medical aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir, who say that only 38 percent of the seats in MD/MS courses across government medical colleges have been kept under the open merit category.
Aspirants claim that the distribution of seats is “unbalanced,” arguing that the limited share for open merit candidates could deprive many deserving students of postgraduate medical opportunities.
As per the seat matrix, government MD/MS seats across GMC Srinagar, GMC Jammu, SKIMS Soura, GMC Baramulla, GMC Anantnag, GMC Doda and GMC Rajouri are largely allotted to various reserved categories, leaving a significantly reduced number for unreserved candidates.
Students emphasised that their objection is not to the reservation quota itself but to what they describe as a drastic cut in open merit seats at the postgraduate level, where competition is already intense.
They urged the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) and the Health and Medical Education Department to revisit the allocation before the counselling process begins, stressing that transparency and balanced distribution are vital to maintain trust among NEET-PG aspirants.
