Srinagar, Sep 26: Hurriyat Conference chairman and Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said he was again placed under house arrest, preventing him from offering congregational prayers at the Jamia Masjid for the third consecutive week.
In a post on X, the Mirwaiz said police informed him he would not be allowed to visit the mosque. He termed the repeated restrictions an attack on basic rights, questioning under what law worship was being turned “into a crime.”
Mirwaiz alleged that authorities arbitrarily curb his freedom, detain him at home, and stop him from delivering sermons without accountability. He also criticised institutions that he said fail to question such actions.
He condemned the curbs, calling them contemptuous of human rights and public sentiment.
