Srinagar, Nov 15: Nine people, including a Naib Tehsildar, were killed and 29 others injured after a massive explosion rocked the Nowgam police station in Srinagar late last night, officials said on Friday.
An official said the blast occurred when a seized explosive stored inside the police station detonated. The material, believed to be ammonium nitrate, had recently been transported from Faridabad to Srinagar after police busted an alleged “doctors’ terror module” operating across multiple states.
“Most of those killed are policemen and members of the Forensic Science Laboratory team. A Naib Tehsildar and a local tailor are also among the deceased. Several of the injured are in critical condition,” the official said.
The force of the explosion was so powerful that some bodies were charred beyond recognition, and body parts were found nearly 100–200 meters away in nearby houses.
The injured have been shifted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital, SKIMS Soura, and a private hospital for treatment.
Identification of the deceased is currently underway.
