Police Foil Suicide Attempt, Rescue Woman and Two Children in Doda

Jammu, Sept 7: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said they successfully averted a suicide attempt after rescuing a woman and her two minor children who were about to jump into the Chenab river in Doda district.

Acting swiftly on information, a police team rushed to the spot and prevented the tragedy, saving three lives, officials said.

The woman, identified as Shamima Akhter, wife of Irfan Ahmed of Golibagh village, was later handed over to the Women Police Station Doda for counselling and legal support.

Police said women helpdesks have been established at all police stations, besides a dedicated women police station, to assist women and girls in distress.

SSP Doda Sandeep Mehta urged women facing domestic or personal issues to reach out to these centres instead of taking extreme steps. “Help is always available. No one is alone in their struggles. Through awareness and collective effort, we can build a safer and supportive society,” he said.
