Jammu, Nov 11: Security has been strengthened at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, its base camp in Katra, and across Jammu city following Monday evening’s explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, officials said.
The powerful blast ripped through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro Station, killing at least eight people and destroying several vehicles. Around 24 others were injured in the explosion, which occurred during peak evening hours when the area was crowded.
“In view of the blast in Delhi, security arrangements have been tightened across important locations in the Jammu region. Additional deployment and checks have been put in place at the Vaishno Devi cave shrine and its base camp,” a senior police officer said.
Security has also been increased throughout Jammu city, with special focus on railway tracks and the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
A high alert has been issued across the region. Senior police officers conducted late-night inspections in Katra and Jammu city, while DIG Jammu-Kathua Shiv Kumar Sharma reviewed the security preparedness on the ground.
