JAMMU, July 20: Authorities have detained two individuals under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in the Jammu and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly posing threats to public order and communal harmony, police said on Sunday.
Mohd Tahir, a resident of Achralla village in Reasi’s Mahore area and currently residing in Jammu’s Bhatindi, was taken into custody under PSA following an order by the District Magistrate of Jammu. He has been lodged in Kathua District Jail.
According to police, Tahir has a long criminal history, with multiple FIRs and court cases against him. Despite prior arrests, he continued unlawful activities, prompting the use of PSA after conventional legal actions failed to deter him.
The second individual, Hafizullah, from Nilote-Assar village in Doda, was also booked under PSA and sent to Bhaderwah jail, based on a dossier submitted by the local police.
His detention stemmed from an incident where he allegedly slaughtered a sacred animal and deliberately placed its remains in a public space, causing communal tension in the area. The PSA was invoked to prevent further disturbances and ensure public peace and religious harmony.
Police urged citizens to respect religious sentiments and help maintain communal peace in the region.
