SRINAGAR: The passage of Women’s Reservation Act amendments would be an inspiring step and a dream come true for the womenfolk of the country, BJP leader and Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board chairperson Darakshan Andrabi sad here on Monday.
“This is an inspiring step for us and we welcome it. It will be a dream come true for the women to be partners in framing laws. We congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Andrabi told reporters here on the sidelines of a function marking the foundation day of the party.
Recently, while campaigning in Kerala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Budget session of Parliament has been extended for three days so that the law enacted in 2023 for providing 33 per cent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies can be implemented from 2029.
The Parliament will reconvene on April 16 after a brief recess to pass bills to increase the number of Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 816 so that the women’s reservation law can be implemented at the earliest.
“The PM has already stated that he wants to empower the women of the country. What couldn’t happen in 70 years, has been made possible only in 11 years and an increased number of women lawmakers will be in our assemblies and the Parliament,” she said.
Referring to the party’s standing in J&K, Andrabi said the BJP has emerged as a stronger force in the Union territory over the last few years and asserted that it will become more popular and stronger in the coming time.
“The development and progress in J&K, under the leadership of PM Modi, is not hidden from anyone. The opposition parties now have nothing to say against the BJP,” she added.
Meanwhile, J&K BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the BJP was built upon the enduring principles of nationalism, democracy, Gandhian socialism, positive secularism (Sarva Dharma Sambhav), and value-based politics — which continue to guide its policies and public outreach.
He also said that sustained efforts are being made to boost industries, create jobs and strengthen the country’s economic backbone.
Congratulating the party workers on the occasion, Thakur urged them to stay dedicated to party’s principles and work tirelessly for the welfare of the people to ensure a stronger, more inclusive and self-reliant India. PTI SSB AMJ AMJ
